tip to beat procrastination
Its my birthday today!!
I know i haven't been writing at all, these past few weeks. In my defence, being consistent is SO hard. And on top of that, i had no idea what to write. and i feel, not having a clear direction to work, breeds procrastination.
Clearly define what you want to do, and thats already 50% of the work done.
And this i mean, not like your general todo tasks.
- write an article on bear blog.
- continue that lecture from youtube.
Above is NOT the right way i feel. What really does work for me, is,
- dump type your thoughts for 8mins into a trial note, on the topic procrastination.
- finish watching at least 15mins of the lecture on LLMs.
you see what i did there?
i clearly defined what needs to be done. i didn't leave any room for confusion on what exactly to do. AND, i made the goals easy to achieve. instead of watching the whole lecture, i have committed only 15 mins.
Having small goals like this, makes me more motivated to actually start acting on them than having a goal like "Finish watching that 5hr vid lecture". Thats daunting.
And usually, after i start the work, i just tend to continue after the 15min mark. Once you set the wheel rolling, it's easier to keep it rolling. the problem is the start. And if any day, i feel like not continuing, that fine too! i don't force myself to sit.
Maybe it works for you? maybe it doesn't. wont hurt to try eh? haha.
thats my 8 mins.
