the first 30 mins
been waking up early these past couple days. Without an alarm, that is.
(don’t ask me how, I’ve got no clue lol).
I’ve started forcing myself not to open my phone for the first half hour after waking up.
why?
i just did not like the idea of me doom scrolling the first thing in the morning.
At night, i usually spend around an hour or so on social media, replying to people and friends on instagram. Right before I go to sleep, i make sure to switch off my wifi and mobile data.
The only way anyone can reach me is by call.
The next morning, for the first 30 mins, I keep it that way. No internet, no notifications. it's like a challenge I have set for myself, to not unlock my phone as soon as i wake up.
So, if i wake up at 6:30, i get online by around 7. so, for the world, i woke up at 7am.
The first half hour of the day, is mine.
what do i do in that half hour?
- i go to the terrace,
- i take a walk around,
- i read my book,
- i do some simple exercises.
Literally anything which doesn't require a phone near me. so yes, no earphones, no podcasts, no music.
(its actually an interesting topic, about always having something playing in the background. maybe i will write about it some other time).
It's a quiet and peaceful time, especially when you wake up early. All your friends and neighbours are asleep, the streets are not that crowded. Less noise.
Although it's just been a couple days since i started doing this, there is already a difference in my mind state. I feel a lot more positive, and "in control" of myself starting the day, compared to when i just lay on my bed scrolling away on my phone.
